we have made a habit of trying a new restaurant every weekend. since sean has been studying his heart out for his series 66 test he decided italian in the east village on saturday night would be a good study break for him. after walking around for a little while we ended up on bowery, beneath the bowery hotel, at gemma. From the outside it looked like a cute european brasserie and when we went inside it was like we had travelled back into old new york. dark wood walls with large windows opening onto the street, we were walked to a booth in the back upholstered with deep cognac leather. we both love restaurants where you feel like you're hiding in a tiny crevice of the city; no one can see you and you can't hear a peep from the city waiting outside. we were brought a bread basket filled with very thin crackers with herbs and olive oil baked on top (once we master how to make this at home, we will share, because they were so light and flavorful!). everything on the menu looked delicious, but true to form, we both ordered the strozzapreti. yum! we quite literally licked our plates. we can't wait to go back!
we are planning a weekend trip to boston next weekend to celebrate sean passing his test on friday (please everyone pray!). We have never been to boston and can't wait to share how much fun we have!

lots of love,
