We get so frustrated living across the country from both of our families. We're young and working hard to build our careers and do not get to visit them as much as we wish. It is the worst part about living in this wonderful city!
After weeks and weeks of trying to decide what to get the Madgett's for Christmas, we decided, on December 23rd, that all we wanted for Christmas and all we wanted to get them for Christmas, was to fly to Seattle.
Once the tickets were booked, operation Lie-to-the-Madgett's ensued! We had to throw everyone off about their Christmas present! We decided to say that we had ordered something for their new lake house and it wouldn't be delivered until New Year's Eve. As the week went on, more and more questions came. The day of, we were both panicking about whether or not they would figure out when neither of us would be reachable while on the plane! It might have been the longest 6-hour flight ever!
As soon as we landed we jumped in the car and anxiously rode out to the house. It had just snowed so it was taking much longer than anticipated to get home. As we pulled up to the house, we could see Mom's face in the window, looking very confused about why a car was pulling in. When she came to the front door, Sean stepped out of the car, and confusion erupted! "SEAN?!" It was so exciting to surprise Mom and Meaghan initially! Dad was still at work, celebrating with co-workers, so we sat waiting for him to come home and surprise him.
Finally, we heard the garage door open. We sat in the dimly lit living room as he walked in and started chatting with Mom and Meaghan, not even noticing us! Meaghan eventually cracked and announced that his Christmas present was in the living room. When Dad turned around, the look on his face made every second of travel worth it!
It was so nice to spend 3 long days at home with them, talking about life, visiting the lake house, and celebrating the New Year! It was so hard to get on that red-eye Monday evening! It was the best surprise and we wish we could pull off something like that again and again!
lots of love,
